Lessons from the Companions
The Shaykhain, Allah is pleased with them. Abu Bakr and Umar. Abu Bakr and Umar, Muslims, and Khalid, and Uthman and Ali, and all of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Do you know why were they able to conquer the known world and the generations coming after them conquered so much? My dear Muslims, do you know why? Because they were never impressed. They were never impressed by one, the worldly luxuries and splendour of the non-believers. They were never impressed by it. Like so many Muslims today, they see a revert or they see a white person in a Ferrari and they get impressed. Let me give you a story.
And the ones who came after them, the Umayyads, the Abbasids, the Ottomans, and now the Saudis and the Mamluks, they’re never impressed by other people’s cultures. They are true to themselves. One of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ was sent to the Yazdegerd, the emperor, not emperor, mere king, of Persia, and to deliver the message of Muslims. Because the Muslims were invading Persia at that time. And the name of the person who sent, the companion who sent, and this companion was Sa’d ibn Abi Qas, radiyallahu anhu, sent Rabi’ ibn Amr to Yazdegerd. And you know how he entered the Persians? You know how he entered the Persian fire worshippers? How he entered upon them?
He entered the tent with his unshewed horse, with a spear in his hand, and used the spear and pinched the beautiful luxury cushions and carpets. He pinched the cushion with his spear to steady his horse. He was never, with his modest clothing, and sat on the ground. This is why you see Muslims eat sitting on the ground. My dear Muslim men, these are the men, these are the men who you look up to. No matter how much you have in this life right now, you will have more inshallah. One of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ told him, I see the bangles, the Persian emperors used to wear bangles, the bangles of whichever the name of that king was, in your arms, in your wrists. And that actually happened. That companion got that in his war spoils. These are the people, my dear Muslim men, these are the people who you look up to. No matter what you have, how much you might have in this life right now, as long as you have faith, iman, Qur’an, sunnah, in your chest, and you ask Allah to give you stuff, a big car, a big house, the best women in the world, everything, because He controls everything, right? He will give it to you. But your core is made of what? Qur’an and sunnah. Upon the understanding of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, and all the companions of the Prophet ﷺ.
