A man who had killed ninety-nine people sought guidance from a rabbi, who told him there was no salvation for him, resulting in the man killing him as well. He then went to another rabbi who advised him to move to a town full of righteous people to repent. Along his journey, he passed away, causing angels of mercy and punishment to descend upon his body. An interpreting angel mediated by measuring the distance between the two cities, and Allah made the earth shorter toward the city of mercy so he could be admitted into Paradise.
